On Oct. 15th, 2015, the Brigade's NGO, the Veteran Paratroopers Foundation, will hold a first-of-its-kind cross-country relay race, from the Mediterranean coast to Zippori National Park in the Lower Galilee. The relay is meant to tighten the bond between the Brigade's people, veterans included, to stay physically and operationally fit, and to get familiar withIsrael's most beautiful landscapes- through our feet.
The relay is expected to include 1,500 runners, in combined groups of soldiers, commanders, veterans and combat support personnel. It is complex event, planned as a full-fledged military operation. The route has been carefully drafted by our senior officers, consuming a great deal of time and private resources for the last six months.
However, since the brigade's NGO is a non-military entity, the relay cannot be funded by the IDF, and requires private funding.
Many things are required for the relay's success- food and water for the runners along the route, caps and t-shirts, lighting and sound, medical support, insurance, return transport etc.
Your support will help us face the challenge and color Israel's northern landscaped in red, for one glorious day of days.
On Us!
The IDF's 55th is a reserve paratrooper brigade, which has taken a major part in all of Israel's campaigns. It is especially known for liberating Old Jerusalem on the 1967 (Six-Day) war, and to be the first brigade to cross Suez Canal in the Egyptian front on the 1973 (Yom Kippur) war. The brigade also took a significant part in both Lebanon wars (1982 and 2006) and in operation Defensive Shield (2002). Some of its senior commanders also played an important role in the last Gaza operations- Cast Lead (2009) and Protective Edge (2014).
It is a truly special brigade, thanks to the strong bond and friendship between its soldiers and commanders, and thanks to uncompromising professionalism in every mission. Till this day it is one of the first reserve brigades to answer the call in any emergency- for that we feel proud and deeply committed.
